“Richard Malinsky is a master of visual poetry; his works are imbued with the lyrical, and can be reminiscent of Monet in their at once subtle but illustrious plays on light.  With The Seven Seas Suite, that lyricism seems to swell on the page.  There is an exciting fluidity to these works, and a natural progression from 1 to 7, as one painting seems to flow into the next; as well as a fluidity of color on the actual surfaces – the paint can seem to stream, as if down a windowpane. Seven Seas Suite is a distinctive and stunning series.”

–  Sandra Tyler, Editor-in-Chief, The Woven Tale Press Literary and fine arts magazine (

The Seven Seas concept originates from my love of the sea and the experience of observing how each ocean seems to have it's own unique color. For example,  the Ligurian sea in Italy, is an indescribable blue and uniquely different from the Mediterranean..  Each painting in this series is a variation on a compositional theme where the color forms appear to hang from the top as they float downward.  Each image has its own stand-alone personality yet feels as though it is a small section of a much larger piece.

Technically, these combine Malinsky’s use of poured liquid acrylic contrasted with opaque “painted” sections, creating depth and a floating sensation.  The background fields are muted and punctuated by fluid color forms that move across the surface, which may seem haphazard but are actually tightly controlled.

The Seven Seas Suite is perfect if you are looking to create a wall grouping for your home, office, or corporate boardroom because they do not need to hang in any specific order.  For example, a group of 3, with 1 large one in the center flanked by a medium size on each side makes a nice statement. Of course you can display all seven in a row in large spaces.
